What Can Dental Veneers Fix?
Hi, I’m Dr Peter Poulos, your Sydney Cosmetic Dentist here at Bondi Junction in Sydney.
Yesterday, one of our regular patients, John from Bronte, came in for an emergency appointment. He was playing with his dog, accidentally fell and chipped his front tooth. His roommate told him dental veneers could fix it and so he asked me to confirm what his friend said.
We had such an interesting conversation. So I thought I’d make this short video sharing with you what dental veneers can fix.
Dental veneers, done in the right way, can address a lot of issues.
There are obvious, basic aesthetic elements such as chipped teeth, discoloured teeth, cracked teeth, slightly misaligned teeth and teeth that have had previous dental work done.
Veneers can revitalise badly worn teeth due to grinding.
They can help reposition and realign a jaw that has had a history of grinding and clenching!
They can from part of smile rehabilitation where you may be replacing surrounding missing teeth with implants!
So essentially they can be a stand alone treatment, or part of a bigger full mouth correction or overhaul!
But veneers can also address other issues, on a deeper level that patients may not have already considered?
At Sydney Cosmetic Dentist, we have developed the Perfect 10™, which is a veneer system underpinned by three principles of stability, function, and aesthetics.
If we delve deeper into those three principles, and look at them individually and in combination with each other, we begin to understand that dental veneers are also a mechanism for facial rejuvenation!
The stability that we create by correctly positioning teeth lead to all the surrounding structures beginning to align! When this happens we are addressing facial symmetry! Now we are talking about facial rejuvenation!
It’s an ANTI AGING PROCESS! Because we are reversing the collapse of structures around the mouth that follow worn teeth!
So in my hands the anti-aging element of the face can be aligned to what I call a dental facelift.
Let’s discuss an example. If someone’s lower jaw has been malpositioned because the teeth have by nature been ground down, with veneers and/or a version of veneers and dental crowns, we can rebuild that missing tooth structure back to where nature intended. This will elongate the lower part of the face and remould the facial muscles to a natural position, giving the face a new profile.
We can even manipulate the lip lines, when we manipulate the muscles of the jaw and face by recreating lost tooth structure. This can enhance the features of the lower part of the face, hence creating what we call this dental facelift.
Essentially we can do a lot of things with dental veneers, depending upon how you present to the surgery. And this comes back to our approach to dentistry where we have an initial conversation and identify the reason why you’ve come to the point of needing this type of treatment. Then, we will customise the end result to make sure that we address all these issues, not just the simply obvious aesthetic concerns.
If dental veneers are something that you have been thinking about it for a while, we’d love to get to know you and take you a few steps closer to a your dream smile.
