Who Needs a Full Mouth Reconstruction?
When teeth are damaged or missing due to trauma, infection, or even age, it can be painful to eat and uncomfortable to socialise with others. Some patients may have teeth that are damaged due to bruxism, illness, or certain medications, while still others may have been born with conditions such as Ectodermal Dysplasia, requiring extensive restoration to teeth. Patients who have multiple missing teeth, many old dental fillings and teeth that are cracked, broken, or missing are candidates for a full mouth reconstruction.
A full mouth reconstruction is also called full mouth rehabilitation as the treatments used allow for rehabilitating oral health with improved bite and chewing efficiency. Damaged teeth may be restored through replacing or reinforcing dental structure and eliminating infection, while missing teeth can be replaced. The following are some things that can be fixed with a full mouth restoration:
Infected root canal
The work begins with a full dental examination and initial conversation with Dr Peter Poulos to help educate patients and allow him to learn about your needs and oral health goals. Then a treatment path will be created designed to help restore your oral health and your smile. 4 Benefits
The Benefits of a Full Mouth Reconstruction
Treat Gum Infections
Gum infection is a very common problem in Australia and causes gum diseases such as gingivitis and periodontitis. According to the Australian Dental Journal, three in every 10 Australian adults suffer from moderate to severe gum disease.[i] When infection is not treated, it can cause pain, bleeding from the gums, and eventually tooth loss as the infection reaches the blood and becomes systemic. A full mouth reconstruction begins with treating issues such as gum infections, so you have a solid foundation on which to rebuild your teeth.
Infections of the Teeth
Certain bacteria can grip teeth and harden, leading to dental carries and plaque buildup. The result is a hole in the tooth that many of us know as a cavity. If the tooth infection is allowed to go deeper through crevices in the tooth or gum, it can affect the tooth root, causing great pain and eventually tooth loss. Dental fillings are used to treat cavities, while root canal therapy can remove the pain and infection of an infected tooth root. These issues will be targeted and treated to promote long-term oral health.
Tooth Alignment
Misaligned teeth can put you at a greater risk for problems such as cracked and chipped teeth. Crowded teeth can create tiny crevices or spaces where bacteria and food debris can hide and cause cavities or gum infections. Crooked teeth can also lead to premature or unnatural wearing down of tooth enamel, as grinding movements can lead to tooth erosion. Orthodontics, such as braces, can treat alignment problems to reduce the risk of these problems while updating your smile.
Gaps Between Teeth
Tooth gaps can cause the weakening of the teeth or lead to a greater risk of bacterial buildup. Fortunately, solutions like orthodontics, dental veneers, and dental crowns can fill the gap and restore your bite to minimise the risk of damage.
Damaged Teeth
Damaged teeth are more susceptible to decay and further damage. They can make eating an uncomfortable challenge or ruin your smile. We offer a number of solutions to repair damaged teeth, such as dental veneers, crowns, inlays, and onlays.
